Srebarna Biosphere Reserve

Srebarna Biosphere Reserve was first designated as a protected area in the 1940's, protected under the Ramsar convention of 1975. Became a World Biosphere Reserve in 1977 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985. It is also an IBA Important Bird Area.

We offer guided tours in partnership with the leading local ecological and ornithological expert Kolyo Mihof, who has a lifetime's experience working in Srebarna.

The reserve is home to hundreds of species of Birds, Plants and Animals and easily accessible thanks to recently opened lakeside Walking and Biking trails. There are plenty of lookout points to stop and observe the wildlife and scenery, or just to rest.

For more pictures of the Reserve and surrounding areas of interest view our Picture Gallery....

The breeding colony of Dalmatian Pelicans (Pelecanus crispus) is the only one in Bulgaria and thanks to the hard work and co-operation of many organisations it is now thriving again. We also boast the only breeding colony of Glossy Ibis (Plegadis falcinellus) in Bulgaria.
